Finpro to launch an internationalization project for the creative industries

Finpro is to launch the Luovimo project, which aims at the internationalization of companies operating in the creative industries. The creative industries are seen as one of Finland's future growth sectors, and their internationalization has become an important development target also at the ministerial level.

Finpro supports the internationalization and growth of companies operating in the creative industries through multidisciplinary expertise and a global network of experts. The project is financed by the Ministry of Employment and the Economy and the Ministry of Education.

“The creative economy has a significant role in raising Finland’s national competitiveness. Turning creative companies into export companies that are at the same level as and partners for traditional industry is important in developing means to distinguish companies,” says Mauri Pekkarinen, Minister of Economic Affairs.

“The creative economy is the growth industry of both today and tomorrow. Finnish expertise meets international standards in many creative industries and is becoming an increasingly significant competitive element,” says Stefan Wallin, Minister of Culture.

Finpro’s internationalization project of companies operating in the creative industries activates the cooperation between different industries and companies and supports the internationalization of top companies in a concrete way. Luovimo’s aim is to develop companies' readiness for internationalization, to support cooperation and networking between industries, and, above all, to produce significant measurable benefits for companies.

The project seeks 20 top companies operating in the creative industries

The Luovimo project consists of common innovation processes for the creative industries and company-specific development programs. Top companies from different creative industries that have a readiness for internationalization are to be selected for the program. The business and readiness for internationalization of these companies will be developed through a consultancy program tailored to the company’s needs. The search for companies will end on March 5, 2010.

“Luovimo’s emphasis is on developing readiness related to selling concepts, products, and services. The project focuses on design, film TV/AV, music, performing arts, games, and content production. We work in close cooperation with the export and sectoral organizations of the creative industries in order to identify the growth-related challenges and interesting concepts that connect the different industries,” says Project Leader and Head of Industry Irma Patala from Finpro.

The project will help 20 Finnish companies operating in the creative industries to develop a sustainable and profitable business for the international market. The aim of the project is to increase the worldwide turnover of these companies as a result of a systematic growth strategy.

“The aim is to develop the international expertise of Finnish companies operating in the creative industries. This includes controlled growth management as well as new operating models and competition. Above all, we help companies identify the opportunities and risks of the global business environment,” says Patala.
